I've heard similar white lies on the trail when hikers on the way down say to hikers on the way up, "You're almost there!"

Finding the right partner, that’s the key to life, not only life on the trail. Someone who knows when you need to hear the truth and when clever encouragement is necessary.

I've lied to my partners quite often. The trail is only and hour away! (It's 2) It's not that bad! (It's a rough trail) It's unfortunate, but the cost of getting non-outdoorsy friends to try new trails with me.

Oh, the hike up Democrat. What a morning. Although I have to say, my personal favorite lies you’ve told me on the trail were the day we hiked Grizzly Peak and I was VERY unprepared. Bad gear, 50+ mph winds. Nothing will ever feel as good as finally crawling to the summit, except for maybe the chicken and waffles after the hike.
